Singapore is a city-state with a land area of only 724.2 square kilometers. According to the "Population in Brief" published by the Strategy Group, Prime Minister's Office, as of June 2019, the total population of Singapore reached 5.7 million. This includes 3.5 million citizens, 530,000 permanent residents, and 1.68 million non-citizens, with nearly 690,000 work pass holders, close to 290,000 Dependent’s pass holders, and about 250,000 migrant domestic workers. Singapore boasts high literacy rates (96.5%), high home ownership rates (90.5%), low crime rates (549 crimes per 100,000 residents), and low unemployment rates (about 2%, approaching full employment). Singapore has a subtropical climate, with temperatures ranging from 25 to 32 degrees Celsius year-round, plentiful rainfall, and high humidity. Singapore is a member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and also a member economy of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC).
