The fifth meeting of the Singapore-Shanghai Comprehensive Cooperation Council was held in Shanghai on 9 July. Attending the meeting were Minister for Culture, Community and Youth and Second Minister for Law, Edwin Tong, Senior Minister of State for Trade and Industry and Culture, Community and Youth, Low Yen Ling, Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng, and Vice Mayor Hua Yuan.
In his speech, Minister Edwin Tong said that since its establishment in 2019, the Singapore-Shanghai Comprehensive Cooperation Council has promoted more business and investment flows between the two regions, deepened cooperation in areas of common interest, and facilitated more frequent people-to-people exchanges. Mayor Gong Zheng noted that since the establishment of the Council, cooperation between Shanghai and Singapore has continuously improved in areas such as the Belt and Road Initiative, financial services, technology innovation, the business environment, urban governance, and cultural exchange, implemented 37 cooperation memoranda.
A total of 15 memoranda of cooperation between Singapore and Shanghai were signed at the meeting, covering fields such as the digital economy, urban planning, and financial services. Among them, the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry's Shanghai Representative Office signed a memorandum of understanding with the Shanghai SME Development Service Centre, and the Singapore Enterprise Centre (Shanghai) signed a framework agreement on Strategic Cooperation with Donghao Lansheng (Group) Co., Ltd.
The meeting was attended by Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry President Kho Choon Keng, Chairman of the Commerce & Industrial Committee Chia Kim Huat, and Director of the Singapore Enterprise Centre (Shanghai) Huang Fei. The Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry will leverage its professional expertise to provide investment environment and policy advisory for enterprises in Singapore and Shanghai looking to expand overseas and assist SMEs from both regions in entering the ASEAN market.
