On March 25, the Networking Tea Session of Singapore Accounting and Law Firms was successfully held in Shanghai. The Networking Tea Session was organized by Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants and the Law Society of Singapore, and co-organized by the Singapore Enterprise Centre (Shanghai) and the Singapore Chamber of Commerce in China. With the theme of sustainable development, this event aimed to understand the business and legal environment related to sustainable development in China, as well as explored collaboration opportunities and networked with local enterprises.
The session commenced with an opening speech by Mr. Huang Fei, Director of the Singapore Enterprise Centre in Shanghai. He mentioned that the Governments of Singapore and China proposed the Singapore Green Plan 2030 and the Carbon Peaking and Carbon Neutrality Goals respectively at a national strategic level, which underscored the high priority and commitment of both countries to the sustainable development agenda. Currently, both countries actively respond to global challenges such as climate change and environmental protection, proposing a series of policy measures dedicated to promoting green, low-carbon, and sustainable development. In terms of green cooperation, China and Singapore have signed multiple memoranda of understanding, reaching bilateral cooperation in areas such as renewable energy, green building, green finance, and encouraging joint efforts by enterprises to promote low-carbon technological innovation.
Following Mr. Huang, Mr. William Chang, Vice-Chairman and Secretary General of SingCham Shanghai gave a speech. Mr. Chang introduced the Sustainable Development Ecosystem of SingCham. He also delved into the importance of fostering mutual understanding and cooperation for sustainable development, offering deep insights into the strategic connections between Singaporean enterprises and the Chinese market, and highlighting the symbiotic relationship that is crucial for growth.
Adolf Peter, Professor of Shanghai University of Political Science and Law introduced the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) and analyzed its impacts on Chinese and Asian companies. His presentation inspired reflection on the broader implications of EU regulations, encouraging strategic thinking among the attendees.
Accounting and law practitioners from Singapore shared their insights respectively, showcasing the diverse expertise and innovative services Singapore offers in areas ranging from ESG certification to law and accounting services. This Networking Tea Session is a great platform for the professional community to share their experiences and practices in sustainable development. It promoted cooperation and exchange, and jointly explored the paths and strategies for sustainable development.
